Interior Department highlights addition to the African American Civil Rights Network.
Last week the Interior Department announced that the James Weldon Johnson Park in Jacksonville, Florida is now officially a part of the national African American Civil Rights Network. The network, created by an act of Congress in 2017, honors and commemorates sites that were key in the Civil Rights Movement. The park in Jacksonville memorializes an attack on peaceful protesters by the Ku Klux Klan where police refused to intervene.
Secretary Bernhardt expressed his appreciation for the new addition to the network saying, “On this 60th anniversary of the tragic events in Jacksonville, it is my honor to designate the site of Ax Handle Saturday as the 31st addition to the African American Civil Rights Network… to tell the complete and often painful story of the struggle for civil rights to foster healing, tolerance, and understanding among all Americans.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to lead the Interior Department to be a helpful guide to teach Americans about our past.
- That the Trump Administration would have wisdom on how to bring about racial reconciliation.
- For Secretary Bernhardt to be used by God to lead the Interior Department effectively.
